The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) invites applications for the ICTS Simons Fellows Program. This program, funded by a targeted grant to ICTS by the Simons Foundation, is aimed at attracting world-leading young researchers to ICTS as postdoctoral fellows.

Applications are invited for Airbus Postdoctoral Prize Fellowships at the Astrophysical Relativity group of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (ICTS-TIFR) in Bangalore, India. The fellowships are part of the International Teaching and Research Chair titled “Mathematics of Complex Systems,” funded by the Airbus Foundation.

LIGO Laboratory at California Institute of Technology hosts a 10-week summer student research program every year, called the LIGO SURF Program. Considering the imminent possibility of the LIGO-India project, LIGO has graciously agreed to host a few talented and motivated undergraduate students from Indian institutions, pre-selected by IndIGO, as part of this program.

The season of graduate-school applications in several universities in North America and Europe is rapidly approaching. A number of universities part of the LIGO-Virgo collaboration host vibrant research groups in various branches of gravitational-wave physics and astronomy, and are looking for bright and well-motivated students.

The five day school on Optics of Gravitational Wave Detectors aims to provide a broad introduction to experimental techniques of interferometric gravitational wave detectors such as LIGO. The course includes tutorials on fundamentals of optics and related areas required for an understanding of GW detectors.

Over the next few months, the Modi Cabinet will examine proposals for projects that its predecessor should have cleared earlier. It would be a mixed bag: some truly contentious issues, some routine appointments and some other complex schemes that require enormous investments. There is one project that is far removed from the public eye, as non-controversial as it gets, yet expensive and esoteric, and still exclusive to a few nations.

ISER-TVM seeks applicants for two Research Associate positions in the area of Gravitational Wave Physics. The positions are funded under the Max Planck Partner Group on Gravitational Wave Physics of Albert Einstein Institute (AEI). The positions will focus on Gravitational Wave detection and parameter estimation issues of binary systems for second generation and future interferometric detectors.

A satellite workshop on Gravitational Wave Astronomy will be held on 19 March 2014, one day before the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) Meeting (20-22 March 2014) at IISER-Mohali. The workshop is partially supported by the local organizers of ASI Meeting and the Max the Planck Partner Group on Gravitational Waves at IISER-Thiruvananthapuram.
